Outsourcing and the U.S. Economy

It’s about time someone spoke the
truth concerning outsourcing. The politicians sure
won’t. They prefer to do finger-pointing saying it
is “his fault”. It is those greedy manufacturers
who want to make bigger profits by having cheap
labor in Asia perform your task for less money.

Did anyone ever tell you that if it wasn’t for
outsourcing you might not have a job? Did anyone
ever tell you that the underwear, shoes, jewelry
and hundreds of other items you own would cost
much more if it wasn’t for outsourcing? Probably
not.

Sure, many tasks are being sent
overseas. Why? Just because it is cheaper? No,
because the manufacturer that item had to do it in
order to be able to compete with other companies
making a similar product. If your company or any
company cannot remain in business then they will
cease to exist and you will be out of a job. As a
former manufacturer I will tell you it is
dog-eat-dog out there and every company is doing
its best to maintain sales and profits. The
company did not go into business to make products
and give you a job; they went into business to
make money and if they can’t do that they (and
you) will be gone.

Profits is not a dirty word. Again if
it wasn’t for profits you would not have a job.
The guy who owns the small business or the
thousands of stockholders who own the big
companies expect that company to make money or
they will sell their shares and you will be gone
too.

When you work for someone you want to
do everything possible to contribute to their
bottom line. Turning of the extra lights, keeping
your machine properly maintained, getting a
shipment out to a customer even if it means
staying a few extra minutes and many other little
things that you know better than I.

Until about 1975 we did outsourcing
and no one objected to it. The widget manufacturer
stopped making screws and bought them from the guy
across town or in the next state who made exactly
what he wanted and at a price cheaper than he
could produce them in his widget factory. Now we
buy the screws from China and India at a price
that is half or less than those made in the USA.
If not each widget might cost dollars more and be
enough to lose business to a competitor. If the
widget company did not outsource there could be a
strong possibility they would go out of business.

Outsourcing is not a U.S. phenomenon. It is
happening to Canada, Germany, Japan, England,
France, Australia and many other countries. Even
Mexico is losing jobs to Asia because they can
produce the same quality goods and services
delivered here for less.

Outsourcing is not only here to stay, but
is going to expand as competition becomes even
more fierce.

Business Software - Adding Efficiency To Business

Business software generally means software programs that can be used by business and companies to carry out business activities, or to increase or measure their business productivity. Business software solution is tailor made software for specific business purposes such as railway and airline ticketing system, billing and inventory control system for department stores etc. Business software can do away with any type of business activity such as cash transactions, receipts, issues, returns, rejections, interests, and depreciation, which entail final accounts, profit and loss accounts, balance-sheet etc.

A computer machine and business software are interdependent, with computer technology becoming more advanced with each new software addition. Nowadays even a tiny business entity tends to use small business software for its easy to handle and ready to use features. Many of the business software are plug and play type for which no special computer knowledge is essential. However, for complex calculations, tedious programming and special technical training, business software with learning tools is exceptionally helpful. IT companies on the other hand sometimes use business software for training purposes, enabling modern technologies like medical transcription.

The business software market is a billion dollar industry today and any one with a sound knowledge of the system can make his or her own earnings very easily. Business software has acquired an important position in the economy of developed and developing countries. Software developing countries like India are doing good business by exporting business software to developed countries. The sprawling BPO sector is providing business software solution to many MNCs and domestic companies.

Small business software markets throughout the globe and has captured a substantial part of the software market in recent times. Small business software may include toy and game software, audio-visual software, accounting software etc. Electronic spreadsheet software, a business software solution, has engaged itself successfully in the vast use of microcomputers.

There are standard softwares available for business such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook etc., which cater to the everyday needs of most businesses. However custom business softwares have many advantages over standard business software. The custom business software can customize the functions and features in a manner required by the customer, be they automatic generation of letters, automatic sending of emails, deadline reminders, printing of receipts and bills, tracking of customers and orders. Many business softwares use operational research methods and algorithms for optimum utilization of resources, maximizing profits and minimizing costs. Business software has the potential to maximize the efficiency of businesses, systematize the way business is done and keep the business under control.

Is Your Computer Sick?

Viruses and spyware usually show up on your computer one of two ways.

Either they invade your system with a frontal assault like the Huns attacking the Romans, or they sneak in a back door like a cat burglar.

Either way, once a virus or piece of spyware gets on your system, getting it off can rate harder than curing a severe case of trench foot!

Viruses, malicious programs designed to disrupt normal computing, and spyware, programs intended to literally “spy” on your activities, can enter your computer a number of ways.

Most commonly they enter your system through an email attachment, by sharing files with an infected computer by disk, as a “ride along” with a 3rd party program you install, or through a “back door” port in your computer.

Regardless of how they get on your system, once in place, they cause no end of headaches and frustration.

The following represent typical signs you may suffer from infection by a virus or piece of spyware.

Your computer starts acting oddly by doing things it never did previously.

Your modem starts trying to dial out to the Internet without you initiating a surfing session.

You notice that files start disappearing, the system stalls, runs slowly, or even crashes frequently.

Your computer takes progressively longer to boot up every time you start it or you notice that your available hard drive space has disappeared. Strange popup windows appear, even when you’re not surfing the web, or you delete a program and it “magically” reappears next time you boot the system.

If you suspect you a virus or a piece of spyware has invaded your computer, follow these steps to first identify and then delete the offending code:

Step 1 - Back up your important files, but remember to scan these files for viruses before reinstalling to avoid accidentally re-infecting your system.

Step 2 - Update your anti-virus definitions and perform a scan of your hard drive.

If you don’t carry virus protection, or you suspect your anti-virus software got corrupted somehow, then log on to www.pandasoftware.com and use the free Panda Active Scan service to check your hard drive for viruses.

Follow the instructions for quarantining and removing the offending files.

Step 3 - Scan your hard drive with an adware, scumware, or spyware detection and removal tool like Adaware www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ or Spybot http://spybot.safer-networking.de/.

Step 4 - In many cases, when the virus or spyware program gets installed with a free utility or game you download from the Web, you must usually uninstall the utility or game to finally get rid of the problem once and for all.

Step 5 - Avoid re-infection by keeping your anti-virus and firewall up-to-date at all times.

As a last resort, if you run into a program you simply can’t get rid of, but can figure out the offending file’s name, do a search for the file name on Google.com. Often you will find you’re not the first victim and may get valuable advice for cleaning up your system.

However, be very careful of the information you find and think twice before modifying any system files.

Computer Phones - Facts and Fallacies

The stakes are high when considering security, privacy, and savings, and the old adage, “look before you leap” might be a more judicial approach when searching for a computer phone provider, aka VoIP (voice over internet protocol).

FACTS

• PC phones (VoIP) can save individuals and businesses up to 80% on current phone bills, regardless of whether calls are made from PC to landlines or mobile phones.

• Secure lines that include patented technology are protected against terminal viruses, worms, Trojan horses, unscrupulous hackers, and uninvited guests listening in on private conversations.

• Unsecure lines cripple users by creating dangerous vulnerability to security and privacy due to operating on open platforms or shared services.

• Over 90% of all VoIP provider services are on unsecure lines.

• Greater than 90% of VoIP solutions providers DO NOT HAVE their own patented technology.

• Costly computer crash repairs have resulted from using unsecure lines.

• Sound travels faster over the internet versus traditional phone lines.

• VoIP requires an inexpensive microphone when not built into the computer.

• There is usually an activation fee.

• Numerous VoIP providers host hidden costs.

• Most VoIP providers charge for de-activation.

• Some VoIP provider require a contract.

FALLACIES

• Broadband or high speed internet connections are the base requirements for VoIP connections. (There are a few VoIP solutions providers with integrity, security, and patented technology that offer service for dial-up connections, as well as DSL, satellite, cable, and broadband connections).

• All well known phone services now offering VoIP have their own patented technology (over 95% do not).

• All well known phone services now offering VoIP incorporate secure lines (over 90% do not).

• Using an open platform is safe.

• Peer-to-Peer services are on secure lines.
