Five Simple Questions to Ask

Filed under:Best Gambling, Games Playing, Internet Fun — posted on June 1, 2010 @ 9:19 am

Sometimes it’s not easy to know what to do when the action gets to you in a poker game. Your can either fold, bet, check, call or raise. When you are unsure which is the best course of action for you to take with your hand, then ask yourself these questions during your next poker online tournament:

1. How are my opponents playing - aggressively, tight, or passively? What is the likelihood of any raises coming out behind you?

2. What are the possible hands your opponents could be holding? Think about what your have observed about their hand ranges. If it is post-flop, then what are the potential hands that could helped by the board?

3. What do my opponents think about my hand? What was your pre-flop action? Did you come out strong or simply limp into the pot?

4. Does my hand warrant a bet or raise? If you think you are holding the best hand, then a raise is your best action. If a raise will force weak players off the pot, then go for it. When you are not confident about making a bet or raise, then go to the last question.

5. Should I check or fold? Obviously, if you think your hand is weak and can’t win, then fold to any bet. If you can check to see a free card, then do so.

By asking the “raise or bet” question before the “check or fold” question, you will add a more aggressive edge to your poker game.

Top Three Reasons to Not Wear Sunglasses at the Table

Filed under:Best Gambling, Games Playing, Internet Fun — posted on March 26, 2010 @ 9:27 am

1. Wearing sunglasses at the poker table is like showing up to the basketball court in a Michael Jordan jersey with full sweat bands, arm bands, knee high socks, and spinning a ball on your finger, badly. Actually, it’s not even that cool. It’s like showing up to the basketball court in a trash bag. Wait, that’s actually cooler also. It’s like showing up to the basketball court and acting all hard and then missing your first four layups, before you even touch the ball. Yeah, poker online is sort of like that.

2. Sunglasses, by now, are a sign that you’re trying too hard. Sometimes there are pros who still wear them out of habit, but most any player who knows what he’s actually doing at the table has realized that the sillified image of the online poker player in glasses, hiding, seems more scared than tough. It’s become a sign of weakness.

3. Because it’s a sign of weakness, people will often not take you very serious sitting down. You’ll be “that guy.” Which, if you can milk properly, can actually work in your favor, but you’ll still look funny. Take the glasses off and play with the big boys. It’s more fun to look a person in the eye.

Good Poker News for Kentucky

Great news has emerged from the U.S. state of Kentucky for online poker players everywhere! The Kentucky Court of Appeals issued a ruling last week prohibiting the Franklin Circuit Court from enforcing its seizure order against the 141 domain names of internet poker sites that were seized illegally by the state of Kentucky. In case you haven’t followed this story Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear seized 141 internet gambling domains, including those belonging to several major online poker rooms. The Court found that Internet domain names are not a “gambling device” under Kentucky law and that the Franklin County Circuit Court’s ruling that these domain names constituted gambling devices that were subject to forfeiture was erroneous. I have been following this case for a while and this is great news. If the state of Kentucky basically said since casino online poker is illegal in that state, they could seize the domain names of any online poker site, no matter where it is based, and shut it down. This is, of course, illegal and if upheld would have allowed basically any government anywhere that doesn’t allow online poker to try and shut down any online poker site as long as anyone who lives in their jurisdiction was using it! This would have been preposterous and disastrous, and this is a victory for online poker players everywhere.

Home Games with Wild Cards

Most any poker online player, in his early years, played the home games with the guys, where every hand had a new set of wild cards, and a new set of crazy, made up rules. These kinds of games, where the skill is less important than having fun, can be a quick way to lose a lot of money, if you aren’t running lucky, but also, in the light of their approach to online poker , can be a key to remembering that poker does always have to be about math and odds and numbers: it can also be about having fun. In those crazy casino games where ‘deuces and threes are wild,’ or ‘one eye jacks and sixes are wild,’ etc., the pots get big fast because it’s quite frequent that more than one player is making a big hand. Putting all your money in with four of a kind only to see it lose to a better four of a kind, or a straight flush, is often a nightly occurrence when a chunk of the deck can chameleon into the missing puzzle piece to a monster. While you certainly wouldn’t want to play this kind of game for big money frequently, bringing it back now and then into your home game can be a nice breath of fresh air from having a bunch of friends all trying to cut each others’ throats.

Beginner’s Bowling Tips: Avoid the Center’s Bowling Rentals

Are you a Nintendo Wii bowler willing to take on real bowling competitively for the first time. When bowling is your calling, you’re in the midsts of a important time in building fundamental skills as a serious bowling competitor. Our introduction to “Bowling Like a Pro” stand as essential reading. An expert from a nearby bowling pro shop can help you to uncover bowling talent. Just like a lot of sports, you get back what you put in (from the ball return - hah). I kid. Fine, bowling is a simple game with not-so simple details. No worry, we can have you rolling your way.

It’s not a big purchase, invest a little in tailored bowling shoes, balls and bowling ball bags. You’ll notice a difference with your own stuff. It’s no joke, have your personal ball drilled, and your game will benefit. A correctly drilled bowling ball can make a substantial improvement in your game. The same goes for sliding out your final step in comfortable bowling shoes which actually fit

If you went ahead and acquired your bowling ball and shoes, here’s another important piece of bowling advice: how to aim. If you face the pins, don’t actually aim for the actual pins. Use the points about 15 feet down the lane, like a sling shot. The reason? It is easier to roll through a target that is closer. To take full advantage, it should be your habit to aim from the precise location on the floor with every roll. If you do it the same every time you can adjust your accuracy and angle.

What about curves, to get ball handling and velocity? That’s our bowling tip #3. It’s all in the specialized bowling ball. Most pros bowl and regularly roll several types of bowling balls to get aggressive hooks, according to the lane. Word of warning: intermediates might want to avoid putting on a show, and avoid a ball that weighs a ton. Some semi-pro bowlers use bowling balls with advanced composite materials. But these special-made balls regularly make even moderately good talents look like they don’t know what they’re doing. That about raps it up. A pro from our bowling shop will return shortly.

Fundraising

Funds is a term you will get to hear a lot especially during this time of the credit crunch. Countries, organizations, NGOs, public sector, private sector; you name it and they are running after more and more funds. They are trying to make strategies for how to generate more funds and get their hands on as much as funds they can. They call the process of strategizing as fundraising ideas.

Everybody has fundraising ideas and it is a possibility that all of them are good, but on the same note there is a very thin line between been creative and fantastic. This line is denoted by the notation of implementation, the idea itself is not that much creative until and unless it could be implemented and generates the projected results. Let us say you have a brilliant idea and people like it, your senior management likes it but in the end it does not generate any funds or require level of funds so the opportunity cost behind that idea is greater than resources applied.

To follow up with this problem it is very necessary that when generating ideas for fund raising one should begin with the end in mind. A good strategy is presented below:

- Your targets to achieve in monetary terms
- Break down of your targets into SMART goal
- Creating/brainstorming ideas to achieve each goal
- Combine all ideas to achieve one major target which was set earlier
- Post evaluation of ideas and removing over lapping phases.

Update on the Bluegrass Poker Ruling

Filed under:Best Gambling, Games Playing, Internet Fun — posted on January 30, 2009 @ 10:54 am

A ruling was handed down by Kentucky’s Judge Wingate, the judicial official hearing the case of the state of Kentucky headed by Governor Beshear v. several online gaming and poker sites, that denied motions to dismiss the case on the grounds that poker is a game of skill.

Amicus briefs were file by iMEGA (Interactive media entertainment and gaming association) the Poker Player’s Association, and the Bluegrass Institute, a consumer rights advocacy group based in Kentucky. Jim Waters of the institute spoke to a reporter from poker site pocketfives.com about the issue saying, “He [Beshear] ran on a platform of expanded gambling. This is using government to shut down competition.”

And Water’s makes an astute point, as Kentucky has recently seen unprecedented growth in their lottery and horseracing, and both outlets offer online wagering opportunities. So what exactly does this mean to other states and how might this ruling affect other online sites? Well for one, the ruling validates Beshear’s claim that such a seizure of domain names is in fact allowable. Think of it in terms of the police raiding a basement and confiscating the chips, cards, and tables, as they can be construed as “gambling devices.”

And if this is upheld in Kentucky courts, it may be used as persuasive caselaw in other states who have a similar propensity to shut down online gambling. However all is not lost for the poker players alliance and Kentucky residents. Regardless of the initial ruling, the case is expected to be appealed to federal court, possibly all the way up to the supreme court of the United States.

Dont Show Your Poker Cards

Filed under:Best Gambling, Games Playing, Internet Fun — posted on December 17, 2008 @ 11:25 am

Online poker is a game of incomplete information. You win by making a good hand, but also by making correct decisions based on what you think the value of your holding is versus that of your opponents. By showing your cards in any circumstance, you are giving away valuable information about your playing style, and very seldom is this ever a profitable idea. By checking your ego at the door as well as your emotion, you can be a smarter and stronger player.

A common situation in which cards are shown is the sympathy show. A player gets drawn out on or coolered, and they want to show everyone how unlucky they are. By turning up the losing poker hand when you don’t need to, you are showing everyone how you played the hand, and giving them a free look at the line you took with a particular hand. This could effect your future results in a potentially devastating way, if very strong players get a great read based on that hand, and other hands you may show down in the future.

One of the more fun parts of poker is running a nice bluff on someone. The competitive nature of cards and the people who play makes it very tough to not get in confrontations, but one you can avoid is the bluff show. Not only does this show give people a read on you, but it embarrasses another player, and gets him gunning for you, and adds a whole new level of complexity to the game. It is best to avoid this and play as straightforward as possible. Check your ego at the door, and enjoy the money the bluff got you, and the future money you will make by not having given away your winning strategy.

The only situation that you could make the argument for a show, would be a sympathy show if the blinds were folded around to you, and you held something like AA or KK in the blind. Showing here is relatively pointless, but it doesn’t negatively affect you at all, as you made no play other than being dealt a nice hand. Outside of this situation, there aren’t great reasons to ever show your hand to your opponents.
