Dial-up Internet Access: Inexpensive But Slow

Dial up Internet access is an inexpensive but slow form of Internet access in which the client uses a modem connected to the computer and a telephone line to dial the Internet service provider.

By configuring the computer to dial a specific phone number, the computer is granted Internet access. It is usually the only choice available for most rural or remote areas where getting a broadband connection is impossible due to low population and demand. It may also be an alternative to people who have limited budgets.

To use dial-up access, the user must have a telephone modem, a device that connects a computer to the telephone system and is capable of converting data into sounds and sounds back into data. The user’s ISP provides software that controls the modem. Upon joining a dial-up service, the subscriber chooses a username and password.

Due to the limited bandwidth, the ability for the modem to send and receive data, dial-up service can take up to five minutes to download just one megabyte of data. In some cases, caching frequently visited pages, and other software tricks can speed up the experience of dial-up access in some cases. If your work online is multimedia-centric, (music, movies, and graphic-laden websites), dial-up service may be too slow to meet your satisfying levels.

Dial-up connections usually have high latency which can make online gaming or videoconferencing difficult. Gamers with dial-up connections are often disconnected from game servers due to high latency of the connection. The factors to consider while choosing a dial-up Internet Access Provider are coverage, price and customer support.

The advantage of dial-up access is that its much cheaper than cable and broadband Internet. Obviously, speed is a disadvantage of dial-up access.
The speed of dial-up Internet is slow because of text, graphics, connection speed, traffic, and the particular site one is visiting. Another thing is the loading speed, which may vary depending on the type of modem one is using. A higher speed modem may increase surfing speed, however, the quality of the phone line one is connected to can also make a difference in the speed.

Despite the above disadvantages, at places where the facility of broadband is not yet explored, dial-up is the only inexpensive means of using the Internet.

Space Shuttle Arresting Hook for Lunar Landings; Feasible?

Can we land the space shuttle on the moon? Some say it is impossible, but not all. One idea floated in an online think tank recently was to set up an aircraft carrier style arresting hook and allow the space shuttle to land on a flat area or semi hard run way. Of course such a crazy stunt could be risky, but what if it could be done?

One guest to the online think tank thought for sure it could not work because a Space Shuttle would be in orbit around the moon at 530 meters per second and stated; “That’s just a wee bit fast for an arrestor hook, or anything vaguely similar.”

Ah, but who says it has to be vaguely similar? When an idea such as this is thrown out in the abstract form. One needs to think of how to make it work and not only why it won’t. Having built many devices, re-designed equipment and tried and yes failed many times, I always found it interesting that people would say something would never work and then we would always find a way with a few improvements to make it work. It might be nice to have a such a device on the moon in the future to catch robotic cargo loads. Perhaps drop a hook like an anchor and have a friction inertia device slow it down and in doing so, collect energy to charge batteries to run other systems.

Sure we can do better or use other methods to bring things to the moon, but we already have the Space Shuttle assets. This idea is intriguing and such thought might propel a new design for something else later even more important. I think I should make a concept sketch with several other possible applications for this and just put them on the web for idea sake, someone looking for another solution may see it and use the basics for something else.

You know you could have an airborne arresting situation where it did not involve the surface of the moon, but slowed down the shuttle or whatever was visiting and simply have an arm at the end to gently set it on the surface in one piece and that way if the system failed you simply abort and go around. If it was working fine the arm extends and sets it down.

Now then and just thinking out loud with solutions to your 530 meters per second speed of landing. Why not discharge gas directly above the 12 meter AGL glide path and use a gas we do not want from mining operations, then excite those molecules with sound and cause a thickening event, slowing the space craft down and allowing for some flight dynamics and ground cushion. Now it works?

Is there underground thermal activity we could collect to discharge later? Let’s you have a 15-mile shallow angle trajectory and you are cruising along at the speed of a high-powered bullet and you are right next to the ground. If there is suddenly a temporary atmosphere, which thickens as you get closer (more gas and more sound or should I say frequency waves to excite molecules) and may a ground catch system, which would act as a cable with inertia friction dampening. You could do it?

But there must be 30 ways to make this work. I bet there are. I am undeterred there is always a way. And even if the strategy for thermal vent release or extra mining gas release is not worthy here, well that idea might be used somewhere else in the future too for something on a planet with those conditions or similar. So for a think tank site, that idea stands, with some obvious needed added components. Many people have great ideas or thoughts, which lead to other thoughts and each thought should be processed and considered in order to propel new innovations and not all the old stuff which does not work. Consider all this in 2006.

Beginner’s Bowling Tips: Avoid the Center’s Bowling Rentals

Filed under:Games Playing, Internet Fun, Living + Recreation — posted on July 27, 2009 @ 8:37 pm

Are you a Nintendo Wii bowler willing to take on real bowling competitively for the first time. When bowling is your calling, you’re in the midsts of a important time in building fundamental skills as a serious bowling competitor. Our introduction to “Bowling Like a Pro” stand as essential reading. An expert from a nearby bowling pro shop can help you to uncover bowling talent. Just like a lot of sports, you get back what you put in (from the ball return - hah). I kid. Fine, bowling is a simple game with not-so simple details. No worry, we can have you rolling your way.

It’s not a big purchase, invest a little in tailored bowling shoes, balls and bowling ball bags. You’ll notice a difference with your own stuff. It’s no joke, have your personal ball drilled, and your game will benefit. A correctly drilled bowling ball can make a substantial improvement in your game. The same goes for sliding out your final step in comfortable bowling shoes which actually fit

If you went ahead and acquired your bowling ball and shoes, here’s another important piece of bowling advice: how to aim. If you face the pins, don’t actually aim for the actual pins. Use the points about 15 feet down the lane, like a sling shot. The reason? It is easier to roll through a target that is closer. To take full advantage, it should be your habit to aim from the precise location on the floor with every roll. If you do it the same every time you can adjust your accuracy and angle.

What about curves, to get ball handling and velocity? That’s our bowling tip #3. It’s all in the specialized bowling ball. Most pros bowl and regularly roll several types of bowling balls to get aggressive hooks, according to the lane. Word of warning: intermediates might want to avoid putting on a show, and avoid a ball that weighs a ton. Some semi-pro bowlers use bowling balls with advanced composite materials. But these special-made balls regularly make even moderately good talents look like they don’t know what they’re doing. That about raps it up. A pro from our bowling shop will return shortly.

We manage the recreational league for a league for a bowling shoes manufacturer down in St. Louis. I provide advice to beginning bowlers online and at the lanes. Finally, I want to give a shout out to all my heavy rollers heading into tournament play. Roll on!

Long time ago when I was a child, I recall that all the asian platform bed sheets in my house had to be white cotton ones. today you find so much variety in these that it becomes difficult to choose. Nobody had considered that bedding could be made using such stunning pastel shades and several fabrics.

That is why there are some things that need to be taken care of before you drop any money on buying bedding.

Measure the size of your bed

You might think that all twin beds or king size beds are standard, but sadly it is not so. Usually the top measurings dont differ a lot but the other dimensions vary with each bed manufacturer. So make sure that you calculate all the measurings of your bed from top to bottom, side to side and also the thickness of the mattress you are using. Often similar beds from the same brand are longer or wider than each other. Measuring your bed will give you an idea of the sizing of your bed sheet before buying.

Choose your shop

You will find a lot of top makes in bed linen available in a departmental shop near you. Those looking for embroidered bed sheets or luxurious looking sheets can buy them from a specialty store. If you still cannot find what you want, try the online shops. In case you wish to purchase regular bed sheets you can get a good deal at a discount rate outlet.

Learn about the thread count of bed sheets

A thread count refers to the amount of threads contained in one square inch of the bedsheet in both directions of the weave. The label of the bedsheet has the thread count printed on it. A lavish texture calls for a higher thread count. Beware of a very high thread count as the sheet may have lighter threads and not the texture you want. A soft bed sheet has a thread count that lies between 175 and 250.

Determine on material for your bedsheet

A material that is reasonably priced and feels nice to sleep on is the one for you. If you prefer wrinkle-free sheets then go for cotton blends or you can buy basic cotton fabrics. For a warm cocoon around you, flannel is best in wintertime. Those who wish a casual sheet can go for satin or silk.

Calculate the sizing of the bedsheet

The size of the bedsheet you select has to be checked at this point. It is crucial to verify if the bed sheet you are buying will fit well on your bed. Take into account the average 7% shrinking that all undergo after the first laundry. If you have really liked the bedding you plan to purchase, always invest in some additional sets. They help greatly in case one of the sheets is torn or soiled..

A Closer Look at the Highly Successful Entrepreneur Naveen Jain: Intelligent Philanthropy at Its Foremost

Filed under:Entrepreneurs, Misc Stuff, Social Network — posted on July 18, 2009 @ 6:03 pm

You will probably have heard about Mr. Naveen Jain in connection with him being the CEO & co-founder of Intelius, Inc. the company providing background checks, identity theft protection and public records services. Beyond making the Forbes 400 Richest in America list in 2000, this maverick entrepreneur has been honored with various prestigious awards, foremost the WSA Industry Achievement Award, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and the Albert Einstein Technology Medal, to name but a small selection. Nonetheless it doesn’t finish off at that point. For Mr. Jain and his kin are likewise as zealous about philanthropy and will attempt to assist others as regularly as they are able to. Our children indisputably are humanity’s most important resource. They are also a central motivation for this enterprising man and he uses every chance he encounters to help them. This is the main reason why he is so unfailingly leveraging every chance available to him to help them, whenever it seems practicable. Thus, Naveen Jain, his family and the workers at Intelius, Inc. have committed to veritably walk the talk: they give their their time to philanthropical agencies such as Hopelink, the Rotary Club, and Child Rights and You (CRY). Of course they hand out plenty of material aid but more importantly, they devote plenty of time and care to the kids who require it the most. Beyond, he donates to the Children’s Hospital, intent on improving children’s health, as well. And as Naveen Jain is a former student of the Indian Institute of Technology and XLRI Jamshedpur, it’s no surprise that teaching is an extremely significant preference in his charitable operations. This also incorporates campaigns and charitable organizations that range from neighborhood programs to the global. Thus Intelius and its CEO are funding voluntary organizations and charities e.g. United Way, the Overlake Service League and TreeHouse.

Getting foodstuffs to the starving of the planet is another critical aim for Jain and those around him and to him, it makes not one jot of difference. Although he is conscious that the undertaking of getting provisions for all the world’s hungry is an eminently herculean one, he is also cognizant that the unattainable can indeed be achieved if the whole world applies themselves towards a common end. If this CEO actually achieves his goals, the final curtain will positively come down on famine and destitution all over the world one day. One would think that functioning as the headman of a wildly prosperous market leading company and a devoted spouse and father would leave him with little spare time for benevolent activities. All the same he ensures that all of his beneficent endeavors is given as much aid as he can feasibly give. This indefatigable man is definitely more than an obsessed (though admittedly eminently successful) maverick of industry. He is (even more importantly) also marvelous individual and a true advocate of his community.
